Hotel Dølen, Evje, minerals and troutfishing in Otra

The Hotel was built in 1920, after the former building burned. However, since 1897, there has been a hotel on the very same site. Pictures of the old hotel is decorating the walls in the small restaurant. Todays building was refurbished in 1980.
The area around Evje is famous for it's mineral wealth. You can hardly find so many different minerals in any othered area of Norway. Most common are, quartz, rockcrystal, smoky quartz, amazonite, topaz and beryl. Evje also have a now closed down nickelmine, which in it's glory days employed 350 workers.
For the passionate troutfisher, the river Otra offers many possibilities. Between Evje and Byglandsfjord, a distance of aproximately 10km, falls, rapids, and tranquil waters alternate. Both anglers and flyfishers, will have a great time.
Up to 1844 the valley of Setesdal was without descent roads and communications with the outside world, which as a result has contributed to keeping old traditions as silverart survive.
